Originally from Cobden, Illinois, Johanna and her family moved to Carlinville from Mexico City.
A graduate of Blackburn College with a BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies, Johanna is currently
finishing her MA in History at SIU Edwardsville.
Since returning to the States, she has been active in supporting the needs of the Hispanic community,
combating adult illiteracy, and teaching computers in at-risk communities.
A life-long Girl Scout, she is the enthusiastic leader of a Brownie/Junior Troop, and teaches Spanish
at Lewis and Clark Community College.
Deeply committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by tapping into the power of community, Johanna
is looking forward to furthering the cause of ICCS in five counties of central Illinois.
